Computing

Statistical computing is an important part of my research. As a result, I have subdivided this into tidbits for LaTeX, R, Linux, and a separate section about Sweave and Gentookakis -- my primary areas of computing interest. As my R cluster project makes progress, I will add an additional tab. I also keep a links section of things I frequently use.

Current Favorite Technologies

Sweave: A natural outgrowth of batch-based text and statistical processing is a method for unifying LaTeX and R (or S+) to produce syntax, graphics, and text in a self-contained document. It offers a standard for replication and more general reproducability that could profoundly alter extant practice. Eventually, I will post some examples.

Gentookakis: A Sun Fire x4100 powered by two dual-core Opteron 270s. The Gentoo server runs MPI as a mini-cluster in R. System administration time is surprisingly small and the power is amazing.
